New Chapter

A year ago today - August 3, 2010, was an ordinary sunny afternoon. Plans were made to pick up boxes for your move to college and have a good dinner of salmon and sweet soy sauce (your favorite) – nothing spectacular, just an ordinary day. We recount all the times during your childhood that we were labeled, “overprotective” - no trampoline, no motorized scooter, boundaries and curfews to keep you safe. We recall the worries and prayers that accompanied the sight of you pulling out of the driveway. But, not on that ordinary bright sunny afternoon, we thought all was well…. and you were gone. Our minds and hearts are still numb and disbelieving. We miss you so very much. As parents we sometimes questioned your priorities. Thank you for teaching us what is important in life. Your philosophy was, “Why study for 4 hours so that you can make an A when you can study for 2, make a B or a C (after all it’s passing) and hang out with your friends?” We now agree. Your friends have become our friends. We are most grateful and humbled by their kindness. We know they miss you too. If love could have kept you here, you would have never gone.
